American Gods Has Found a Fortunate Laura Moon!

Emily Browning, who is probably best-known as Violet in A Series of Unfortunate Events, is joining Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane in the upcoming American Gods adaptation! Browning will take on the complicated role of Shadow Moon’s wife, Laura. Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are adapting Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel for Starz, with plans to begin filming next month, and each time they announce something, we get more excited.

American Gods tells the story of Shadow Moon, and ex-con who finds himself working for the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday. The two are soon embroiled in a war between the Old Gods of mythology and the New Gods of technology, commerce, and media. Laura Moon is a particularly strong character; while she begins the story in a very uncertain place, her character ends up having one of the most compelling arcs of the novel. We can’t wait to see how that translates to television!

Neil Gaiman is characteristically enthusiastic, saying: “I’ve been fascinated by Emily Browning since A Series of Unfortunate Events. She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She’s going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.”
